What happens to a cylinder that's so badly scored that it doesn't hold compression? Do you replace the cylinder, or can you hone the scores out?

If you can't remove the scores by honing, can you bore the cylinder out and go with an oversized piston?

I've been watching Married with Small Engines on TV. She never says what she does with badly damaged scored cylinders.

Trash, pencil holder, etc. once the plating is scored through there is no economical way to fix a cylinder. Just replace it.
What you see in those vids are not aluminum cylinders like on a chainsaw. A cylinder can be bored and sleeved but for around $500, maybe…and, then you still have to cut in the ports .

Older chainsaws had iron bores ( McCulloch) , and they sold oversized pistons for them 10,20,and30 .
@Red97 has over bored and sleeved newer ones with iron, but replating is very expensive and really only applies where and antique restoration is being done with a saw that parts are NLA.
