This goes back almost 60 years ago .The AH 47 and AH 58 used in kart racing had after market heads that used banjo bolts with a raised center using a piston ring that inserted into the cylinder .These were rather low compression engines in stock form .Just another way to skin the same cat so to speak .
I had a pair of Indian motorcyles ,a 249 cc Scout and a 498 CC Warrior that used aluminum or copper o-ring gaskets where the cylinder lip actually inserted into the combustion chamber which was a perfect hemi design .Again just another method .

What type of permatex did you use?
Ultra Black, Advanced Formula, Maximum Oil Resistance, Gasket Maker. I have had good results using this. Most home improvement and hardware stores have it.

BTW, there was no trace anywhere that a gasket was ever in place before this piston and jug burned out.

I would use permatex grey #2 next time instead, should be easy to find. It’s similar to the 3bond 1184/ yamabond/ motoseal type sealants. Permatex black isn’t as gas/oil resistant.

Grey permatex is the high torque one. Black is oil resistant. And permatex doesn't hold a candle to hondabond.

7DD40720-9D62-4B56-ADEF-534485612CB8.png I’d rather use 3 bond 1184 but #2 permaxtex seems like it could work.

Speaking of Permatex I just ordered a 16 OZ of Permatex aviation which is a spreadable version of number 2 . I have to do a quick and dirty on the fuel fill line on my Ranger using Buna-N sheeting and hose clamps .Other wise I have to lift the bed off the little truck and my shop with the overhead rails is 22 miles from my house. Alas it's never simple but I fumble my way around it .

Are you trying a external repair to a rubber tube or metal tube? Im sure you realize its a very temporary repair. If its a rubber hose my hardware store sells this electrical tape type stuff that works very well. Cant remember the name of it but they show vids of it beibg used to make temp belts patching radiator hoses. It would probably work on the metal tubes too. Its silly strong stuff. I think its called rescue tape

It's the outside tube which has about a 1/2" crack .I already sealed it with Permatex permashield which is fuel resistant . The Buna-n sheet stock and permatex # 3 is just for added protection with a couple of hose clamps to hold it in place .It's temporary but I don't have much choice because either the bed has to come off or the gas tank has to be removed . I'll have to wait on that until about Nov when my lady friend will be back because my shop is 22 miles away and I don't think I can do it in one day .--need a ride ---
A complete tube, inner, outer with clamps and flange is only about 60-70 bucks .Of course you could pay 200 for it if you went to a dealer .Evidently Rangers are prone to do this ,crack the tube and mine was brand new in 1996 .

You sure the tank has to be dropped to change this tube? For a pump, yes but you may be able to get the clamp screw loose with the tank in place. Then loosen the small screws under the gas cap cover and pull the whole business out. (it protrudes into the tank quite a ways.)

I'm not sure.I was just following stuff I saw on you tube .I'll be able to tell more once I get it on my auto lift .I've got a drive on air over hydraulic with a 13.5 inch cylinder .That would be a lot more simple than laying on my back on a concrete floor .--I'm in pretty good shape for 70 but I'm not as limber as I used to be .

Up date .First of all I wasn't trying to hijack the thread but it was about sealants .My half-fast repair on the fuel hose worked . Permatex number two probably dates the model A Ford and if it worked then it will now .The only other I know personally might be Loctite 5900 RTV ,used by nearly every manufacture of automobiles in the world . I've mentioned it,people have scoffed at it so I'm done .Whatever Yamaha bond or Dirko is I have not a clue .---whatever works--works .

I thought I would add some good news here. My rebuilt Husky 51 operated flawlessly this past weekend. I bucked several 18" dia. rounds of dry logs with it while using a sharp chain and a 20" bar.

I was a bit skeptical about its power to pull a 20" bar and chain, but it handled it very well with the new 46 mm top end that I used to replace the 44 mm that the original owner burned out. I think I have a keeper on board and a great backup to my Husky 257. Two thumbs up!
