I dont know much about them? Parts interchange between 281 metal and newer plastic handled or interchange with a 288?

I dont think anyone knows that yet. Probably a better way to tune a saw though

I've tuned my sled with an EGT race pak for years. Anytime you monitor temps it was always EGT. I liked to stay around 1250 but have been on the edge at 1325. Prolonged periods of 1325 didn't end well. I smoked 7 jugs in that sled before it was perfect.

If I EVER get my flat top 66 back its gunna have a race pak on it

In played around with a Racepak as well. Mostly with Polaris and Doo snowmobiles but also a Yam RD400 Daytona Special and a RZ-350.
I set my alarms for 1250 to give me a little cushion. However these numbers greatly depend on how far from the piston the probe is placed.
I only ever smoked one jug while using a Racepack. It was from detonation that happened so fast and so violently that I never noticed an increase in EGT.

So to sum it up the oil running the hottest is burning better .

Maybe, maybe not.
