@Woodwackr does that saw have a full or half wrap? If it has a plastic tank make sure the front isnt melted through from the exhaust
Yes, wrap handle, chain brake that looks iffy. Let me find the link…

Can anyone confirm part number for Makita clutch tool for 7900? I'm seeing #944-500-570? Dropping a part order and figured it'd be nice to have one.

That seems to be the correct part number.
You are on the right track.

I made my own, I am considering to sell a couple to recoup expenses.

You can cut up a socket and make Your own tool.

Can You tell the man what size socket fits?
I can't seem to recall on top of my head.
Been a while since I last tinkered with clutches on any of my saws.

17 or 19mm?

Edit:
A 19mm socket can be made into a 7900 clutch tool.

Yup, same. 19mm or 3/4 inch socket if memory servers me correctly. Cut ever other flat off and you've got a socket tool.

There You have it, 19mm socket.

I started similar to that, though not socket type but rather solid steel milled, then went manic and made a much more beefy heavy duty tool.

You'd snap multiple crankshafts before managing to destroy my clutch tool. ;)

I had initially put in for # 944-500-590 and they came back telling me # was invalid. I located this PDF that shows shop tools and found that -570 looks to be correct. Waiting to hear back from order dept.

The tool you made is a thing of beauty!

I guess I will have to manufacture one. Was literally told to 'try SawAgain' by Makita tecnical support. He even provided a link. Was trying to score one at dealer cost. Ah well. Still have $200 of parts inbound. Rubber, filters and misc for my saws and other stuff. They still have 20" loops of LGX too so I got a couple.

Wilhelm...if you could only have 3 spare parts for a 7900, which 3 would they be? (most prone to failure/breakage)

Oil pump drive
Complete clutch set
AV spring set

The above always seems to be compromised on used saw purchases.
I have multiples of these stashed!

Exactly why I asked you. I got some backup AV. Need to get clutch and drive parts next order. Thank you.

Wilhelm and Heimannm, the clutch...do I need to get an xrtra shoe also, or just the guts? (139 or 139 +189)

Get the clutch 139 and a drum 189.

I go with the logic that the clutch is a set and should be replaced as such.

I have been told that the drum hub is prone to separation from the drum, although I never had that happen myself.

Get a couple spare E-clips 146, they randomly open black holes and vanish in them!

Those clutch parts were dirt cheap not too long ago.
Same with the AV mount sets.

Not anymore...
