Worked on a saw today for the basics and a carb kit. When I was done it would only run on a prime. It wasn't getting fuel. The fuel lines and impulse checked out. Pulled the carb to double check that the diaphragms were installed in order and the lever was set. That lever was HARD. I put the Mitivac on and tried to pop the valve open but maxed out the gauge!

The spring that came in the Zama kit was a beast. Went to the "junk box" and found one a hair shorter, thus softer. Works great! I've never seen this BUT it does have me rethinking some of the jobs that still wouldn't behave well after a carb kit.

I never thought about leaving in the original till now. Walbro helps with that as they don't bother with a new one. Always thought they were being cheapskates... till now.

Inlet lever springs is one area I will say where OEM is a must, most if not all AM manufacturers do not get it right when it comes to this. Even American made kits for snowmobiles don't get it right. For what ever reason they just do not see the importance of having the proper spring pressure to allow the carburetor to function properly. This goes for AM carbs as well, Asia, South America, does not seem to matter. Now the OEM spring is a must have item for me. Hopefully this will change for the better in the future, when? Who knows, or if ever. Not really sure how I can stress enough, just how important that little spring is. Also very affordable from the original manufacturer.
As Chainsaw Jim stated previously, unless there is really something wrong with the spring in your carburetor, or it goes bouncing across your shop floor to parts unknown, the one that's in there is usually just fine and exactly what you need.

This kit was OEM going into an OEM carb.
