If it’s a thinning CTL landing it might of been that big to allow truck traffic by well loading. Depending on who’s ground some companies don’t allow forwarders or yarding on the roads.

I’ve seen some ground-based sides have huge landings like this in a situation like you said. Certainly would help with congestion I would imagine. This landing was definitely made for tower logging. Decently steep off the sides.
Why does it seem we have small landings for big timber, and big landings for small timber?! Just a coincidence here I suppose. Roseburg Lumber said this timber wasn’t going to be on the schedule for a quite awhile.

Here's a pretty cool old stump - I'd say it dates from the late 40's. I think it's Port Orford Cedar. It doesn't look impressive
in the pictures but the top of the stump is around 7' x 8' in diameter, the bottom of the root flare is about 10' x 11'.

This was a bad mistake by me. In a situation like this I usually leave wood on the high side of the face cut and finish the cut in a safe place. These big face cuts can cut your head clean off. Somthing to keep in mind. Hope everyone is doing well! Loving this community. Peace and love from Pat!
