Here’s a good view of where I’m working:
2 more Black Walnut trees (18” DBH/ea) over looking the valley below with the South Fork running along, my log landing and pickup, and cattle at the hay wagons in the way back. For some perspective, the hills here are roughly 400’ in elevation. Some are quite manageable, and others are too steep to log. They call this area the “Driftless” region.

When I googled Winona MN then Driftless Area I popped to south east of Decora IA at Driftless Area National wildlife Refuge. Elkader IA. Then South Fork didn't connect me to anywhere.

Good Catch. I did AREA Reckon I will go take a Jaunt Back to Minnesota for another Lookee LOOu at the REGION.

Took another trip/search and Google crammed me back to AREA in Elkader IA.
I am getting to much windshield time trying to chase these logs down. .. Nice Vacation for not leaving home.

I do a lot of snooping around on Google Earth, myself. Driftless region/area is southeast MN/northeast IA where Elkader is. You found it.

I used to call my CUZZENKEN in MO and tell him Google Map showed his bee hives were LEANING. One time the pictures caught him when he had some getting a sunlight treatment from varroa mites He said the pic couldn't be very new cuz there was snow in his backyard.

Yeh, knew it was next state over too, couldn't remember if that was Wisconsin or Michigan.

They all look the same.

I just knew that because I drove from Minneapolis to Chicago a few years back. We drove through the driftless area for a good bit of the drive and stopped with a friend who has a house there in Wisconsin. It back right up to a river, and they had a dock. From there, the could access the Mississippi and its tributaries.
