Good looking build Bubba! 55CP is worth the effort, with some bananas it will spank a stock 346 red.

Randy is doing a good thing by teaching Bubba what it takes to repair/fix/ modify something.
This instills self confidence. If i can accomplish this i can try other things in life and succeed if i try.
In young people the fear of failure is strong, if they get that first big success they will try other things.
Even if they then fail at something they tend to try again.

Good job Randy you are doing more than just hackin up saws.

I read something about kids should do activities where the end result is a tangible reward. Fruit of their labor kind of thing. Models. Wood working. Cooking. Building a fort. gardening.

hopefully he enjoys this saw.

Will he be ready for customer work after this one?

You likely have the parts for him to do another one or three. Repetition.

If he does not show value in his mentor yet, he will. Good job.

He didn't want to do the port work. He did all the assembly, cleaning, muffler mod, etc.

He also cut the base on the lathe.

We used a 353 Hyway pop up from HL Supply. The squish was a bit loose even without a gasket. So, he took .014 off the base.

The port work is way mild. Just opened the lowers to allow the full skirt piston to work, widened the exhaust, and added some intake duration. It's a snappy little runner.

Nice saw! Did the Bubba figure out yet that this means he has to cut all the firewood from now on yet?

And get you a DeWalt 12v impact and drill set. You'll never use full sized (or Milwaukee!) tools again.

And that 'lil' DCL510 flashlight is impressive AND convenient
