but it shouldn't pop like that

I think it's running lean. at this point I would try a 066 carb and tune it rich to see if that helps

I'm running a 4701 coil, which runs richer than the 4700 coil that's sitting in a draw

I'm going to swap coils to see if it gets better or worse

Thanks Brian, that's gotta be the problem !!

I'd try 20:1 to see if its worse before I try 40:1 to see if its better
25 to 1 is leaner than 40 to 1 is why i suspected it giving the lean pop ,why do you feel you need 25 to 1 ? My milling should be similar to stumping ,my saw has been fine even with a stock choked up muffler at 40 to 1 .

I'm not sure that it's a lean pop.

-The 4701 (richer) coil does it
-The 4700(leaner) coil doesn't do it
-Muffler off and its worse
-Spark is steady, Hardline and Works tachs are steady too
-Fresh VP94 SEF and freash 110ll both do it
-.010 off the key does it less, but its down on power (.020 off key now)
-Doesn't do it under a load, just unloaded or lightly loaded

If it ain't popping under load.......it ain't advanced too far. That's not the issue.

Ive had it from 010 to 040 and it still pops when not loaded.
I put 404 on it and helped.
It pops the first cut when it's cold and doesn't do it again.
Listen to it lean itself out and get stronger every cut. Pretty Kool I think
Also I believe it's just 4 stroking and nothing more that makes the popping.

These MT saws are picky about fuel and oil. I'd run some regular old gas.....and 40:1 to see how it likes that.
That's exactly what I do in my 661 that redfin ported for me. Been beating it for months everyday and it keeps on keeping on.
