Fun fact: The East German Trabant's body was made from plywood. It was odd hearing one get into an accident, you hear the plywood shatter...it got really good gas mileage though...

Not plywood but Duroplast, something like laminate.

Another fun fact: Trabant had two-stroke combustion engine, so before refueling, you had to pour oil into the tank.

Fuel consumption (6 l/100 km) was indeed lower than with other cars in that part of world and time (about 8 l/100 km), but comfort, speed and safety was even more tragical.

Yesterday after a long day at the dealer retirement equipment auction I was walking past a house in town and a mature woman was sitting on her front porch. As I was walking by I said hello and she asked if the auction was over. I stopped and walked up to the porch to talk with her for a few minutes. I was there over an hour. She was a purse joy to visit with. She had been there 64 years. Her next door neighbor was a man I knew of from dirt track racing 40 years ago.

What really gave me a smile was when she said.........."I had 15 kids here"
