Picked up a box of 272 a while back, and have been collecting parts for a full rebuild, all OEM except for a Meteor piston and SKF bearings. still need one seal and o-ring for the oil pump. I my replace all the rubber parts in the oil system as well.

Being the proud new owner of my first Makita I'll say that's the way to go.
I recently acquired a 421 and it’s a nice little saw.

Oh man I'll have one one day. I ran one @Miller Mod Saws had at Randy's gtg 2 years ago. Loved that little saw!
I might get this one ported, with the cat deleted it runs like a stock 50cc saw. Impressive for 42cc. Really is the little saw that could. Lol

He apparently has it listed elsewhere for 400, I might pass on it. I've had some dolkitas offered to me too recently
I would consider getting the 272. They aren't get any easier to come by. You will be able to get dokitas anytime.

I’m sorta a husky guy (appreciate any good running saw however)... but if your gonna use the saw for work the dolkita is much nicer than a 272 imho.

Lol I use old saws all the time for work.
It’s not really fair to compare to the modern dolkita with the 272 though. A 044 is a better comparison.
