Can you build the carburetor on this saw just like any other? Doesn’t want to stay running. Replaced the tank because it was dropped and the gas remaining smelled funky.
I can only get it to hit some. Choke, WOT, idle it will only hit and putter at best.

Yes you can rebuild it. I went through 3 of them. Did the carb, impulse line, fuel line and filter. Have the carb updated at a dealer. The impulse line is an issue on a lot of them. Check that for sure!

I had one that I thought was fuel system issues. Went through it and everything looked fine. Would sputter on choke and only run with throttle, no low end.
Turned out to have about 60#'s of compression.

It had "impact damage" to start with. Upon replacement of broken parts the running condition was found.
Turns out it was thrown out of a tree because it would not run right.

I would have liked to thrown the one I had out of a tree while working on it. The little tabs broke off while assembling grr. Ran great once I got it back together. Just didn’t like how it felt.

Nine times out of ten it's the piston ring that's worn, affecting compression.
(Rebuilt lots of these with this fault, they all felt like compression was ok!)
