This is interesting, kind of a microcosm of life. At Mcdonald's where I ate breakfast this morning, one table had high school kids probably skipping school with nothing better to do. The other tables had old folks probably no longer in the workforce likewise with nothing better to do. This scene is a living example of the maxim written in Italian on the entrance to the catacombs of Palermo:
"You are what we once were. We are what you will be. We will all die."
