Is there anyone near you with a 462 that you could try out? Where are you located as maybe we can find someone close by then.

I live in Winona County, Minnesota. I have previously owned a 460 and loved that saw, but sold it to fund my 661 purchase about 3 years ago. Are the 462’s much snappier with the newer cylinder design and MT?

I don’t own a 462 but I know a guy just over in Wisconsin who does. I have the unavailable in the states saw and a 6421/7910 makita. I would like to try a 462 just to see how they compare to the 044/440 and 441 as I’ve ran both

I run a 25” on both the 661 and the 361. Love that size - just long enough to get through most timber, but not cumbersome. And I can tip the saw downward without bending my back..
The 462 is a really good power head for a 25" bar...:D I also use mostly 25", and I very rarely reach for the 90cc saws for it. If I'm cutting all bigger trees, I'll use a 90 with a 25 or 28 once in a while, but the 70s do very well with that size bar.

My bone stock 462 runs a lot like the muffler modded 044, maybe not quite as much leaning on torque, but close. Those two are both maybe a fuzz stronger the the bone stock 461, and both noticeably stronger than the bone stock 441

I'm about 4.5 hrs west of you. If you ever get this way, you can run my XS462

I have a mmws ported 362rcm that i absolutely LOVE!! (Its actually the one mastermind used in his 362c youtube vid with the 440 dogs and the fmf sticker... haha! My saw is famous!!) Its a beast for being a 60cc saw. i say send the 361 to Tennessee and let the magician work his magic! And while you are waiting for the 361 to return, buy a 462 to send to him when the 361 returns!! Hehe!! I will hopefully be picking up a 462 this summer and hope the dr can work his magic on it also..

Good to hear I’m not the only one! I am also curious if the ported 361 will consume more fuel than the 462 (if they make comparable power).
And if memory serves me right, I had heard that a ported 361 would run as fast as, or faster, than a stock 460 at the time.. so, if they are close in weight, it’s really going to be a tough call to make! (Granted the 462 makes the same Peak horsepower as a 460, with MTronic it is a much broader power curve..)

My ported Mofo 361 was faster with a 20” bar than my muffler modded, but not broken in 462 and my broken in, totally stock 462. I sold both 462s. Honestly, I don’t miss either in my line up.

The 361 With the upgradedHO Oiler oils a 28” bar ok, but the 462 oils much better. I got a really good deal on the 361 and Al made it great. I don’t have a ton into it. I like how it handles.

I sold both 462s since I have the mofo 361 and the cfb hybrid. Plus, I couldn’t turn down the money people offered for the 462s.

462 is an awesome saw. If I were starting over, I don’t think I’d bother with any 60cc saw and just get the 462. I’d be happy with a 261v2, 462 and 661.

So I’ve been chewing on this all week: if I decide to port the 361, it will obviously use more fuel. But how much will I notice it? Example: since it technically will cut faster, will it get the same amount of wood cut, just quicker, before running out?

Fuel consumption is not a HUGE concern, but it is something I need to think about since I intend to be felling with this saw aways from the truck. Typically my brother brings me fuel he carries on the skidder - I just don’t want to be running out all the time waiting for him to return. That’s a terrible feeling of halting production.. If any of you that have ported saws , even the builders, could chime in with some advice on the fuel consumption end of it, I would appreciate it!

I’m really torn between wanting a ported saw of my own OR selling saws and just buying the 462.. As smooth as the 361 runs stock, I can only imagine how much more wood it will eat once ported...

I’ve never ran a ported ms361 but have ran it stock and many many 362’s stock and muffler mod timing advance. I can’t say for sure because it’s been awhile but in my opinion a ms 462 is a little smoother with the spring av and pretty easy on fuel in stock form. I liked the 500’s I ran but they are plenty thirsty.

This is a really hard decision for me! I have heard such good things about ported 361’s that I am kinda leaning that way, but at the same time, buying a 462 would be fantastic also!
