After I tried to find a HO oiler for my 462 with no luck I realized I had the HO out of a 460 sitting around and what do you know it fits. Any compatible Stihl saw and oiler combo you know of is welcome. I think this could really help a lot of guys. Just remember if you think your not getting enough oil MAKE SURE YOUR CHAIN IS SHARP. Do your research before buying a oiler listed on here, just because it fits doesn't mean you need that much oil...

046, 460, 461, 362, 462, 500i

Upgrades 1128 640 3250 (HO Ms460)
I think the oiler out of a 661 would fit, waiting for someone to confirm/deny.

Can anybody confirm or deny will the oiler out of a 500i, or 661 fit in a 462?
They look the same on the internet...

Good idea! This is probably the simplest approach to more oil on the saws that can run the bigger 460 oiler. For saws like the 044/440, you are stuck having to modify the pump to get more oil output.

You didn't put an oil pump from a 460 in your 462. It isn't possible.

There is no "HO" pump for a 462, they made it adequate enough that it didn't warrant a high output version that would have otherwise came on the wrap model.

A 462 and 500 pump are identical, they are the same.

A 661 pump doesn't come in to play with any of the above models, it's an entirely different pump that also doesn't have a high output option.

You can add the oil pump from a 460/1 on to the 361/362/400.

There is nothing else to it. Feel free to ask me any questions if you have any.

Too bad we have to Jack around with something as basic as delivering oil to whatever bar the saw is capable of pulling…

That's why they continue to make the new models with an oil pump that's adequate for the recommended bar lengths whether it's an R model or not. I think it's a thing of beauty.

I thought it was the other way around? New saws deliver less oil...

A 440 doesn't oil as good as a 462 does.

A 660 doesn't oil as good as a 661 does.

Both by simply pushing in the limiting pin to allow you to turn the pump up.

We'll see if the new 400 oils better than it's replacement. Pattern recognition tells me it will.

Is this the HO pump from a 460 1128 640 3250?
It dropped right into my brand new ms462 I can get picture proof if needed.
I'm not looking for pumps labeled HO I'm trying to put together a list of upgrades for saws you can't just go buy a HO for.
I only put it in since I'm going to be cutting a bunch of dry oak, I may put the stock one in once I'm done with that.

It depends on what your cutting...
Dead oak or locust seems to be the worst, slow cutting and and it wicks up the oil.

I know that, I've cut a few different species of hardwood trees a few times in my life...

All I know is with the pin punched in it was iffy to the point I didn't want to keep running it.
The bar was turning brown and too hot to hold for verry long.
The 460 oiler helped considerably.

I AGREE with keeping it Civil But Just lay it out there so fellas like me can learn from reading and CIPHERING. A bit of disagreeing makes one more analytical when commenting and might finetune some details/issues like part numbers and model interchangeabilities ETC....>>>>
GREAT THREAD.

Agreed. Disagreements are fine, just don't get too hot over a chainsaw oiler please. That was directed at everyone by the way
