Stihl BG56C

Hello, new member here so please let me know if I'm doing something wrong. I have a Stihl BG 56C that I picked up for cheap. I've replaced the carb, fuel filter, fuel lines, and air filter. I've cleaned the exhaust screen and the piston moves freely.

I know the easy start system has the secondary spring. I've checked it and it is fine. What else could I be missing?

Hello Nathan, welcome to the forum. You didn't let us know what problem you are having, is it that it won't start? Does the machine sputter like it is trying to start?

1. Did you verify spark from the spark plug (is it possibly fouled)?
2. Check the gap between the coil and flywheel (use a business card as a feeler gauge).

I'm so sorry. It will not start. I did replace the spark plug. Not sure how to check if it's fouled.

I will check the gap.

Usually it is older plugs that have build up on them that retard the ability for the spark plug to spark correctly (if at all). After trying to start, if you pull the plug is it wet?

It's a brand new plug. I'll check shortly

Something else, you might pull the muffler off and take a look at the piston, look to see if there is any scoring. Might be hard to tell if there is low compression with the easy start module on that unit.

I,d say as it’s an unknown machine, you will have to go through it with care and diligence.

The first is. Is there a spark when pulled over & the spark plug is where you can see it and it’s earthed to the machine ?
The nexted is fuel ? If it’s getting a spark and there is fuel it’s should splutter when trying to start it.
Is the machine flooded. Wet plug and possibly crank case full of fuel ?
However if the crank is not flooded and the plug is not wet (fouled) etc.
Then you need compression for it to start..
The way many people test for an underlying problem of the possibility of the carb and or lack of compression s to put a bit of fresh fuel mix [1ml] in the carb throat, it should start and run and Rev until the fuel is burnt or the carb starts to supply fuel.
If it’s lack of compression , then it will probably fire and stumble.or not start at all.

Just to add..when starting once fuel has been trickled into the throat of the carb. You should be starting it on hot start, ie wot.
