I moved your thread to the general chainsaw page. It’ll get more views there.

the 046 460 461 and 660 with the poly flywheels have a raised edge where the coil fires at so its not completely round for when you do the air gap for the coil

Leave the coil a little loose, slide a business card in between the coil and flywheel. Roll the flywheel back until the magnetlines up with the coil. Tighten bolts and pull the card out.

Yep that’s the way it should be done the easiest, although there are more difficult ways that others use, ie a metal feeler..:risas3:

I've never attempted to do it any other way. It's always worked for me this way and if the card is junk, burn it and use a new one.

Job done took 15 minutes thank you very much for the advice.
Only problem I've got now is it runs between 12600 and 13400 and sort of won't settle down .

What do you mean by “settle down”?

Do you mean that it won’t stay consistent at a certain top rpm and floats all over the place?

If that’s the case, make sure your muffler screen is clean. Then look at the fuel delivery system. You could need a fuel line, filter, impulse line or a carb kit. You also may need to drill the jet in the carb. The HD50 carbs come lean from the factory with a smaller key than the older 044/6 carbs. Check tank vent too.

A limited coil can hide other problems.

How far out is your H needle? Did you pull the limiters?

I know this sounds dumb and makes no sense, but I have had saws wander at high rpm from not enough exhaust outlet.

Had it happen recently on a brand new Echo 620 I ported. The saw would wander and wouldn’t want to get over 12500-13400. Struggled to 4 stroke as well and would just wander. I pulled the new stock exhaust screen out of the enlarged outlet I made and the saw jumped to 14500 and stayed stable there. Why it would cause a wander is still a mystery to me.

Saw is virtually new not even 10 tanks exhaust outlet was done the week it was picked up same with the limiters my other chainsaws yes I know they will not stay at a given RPM but they only float up and down 200 to 300 RPM .
Saw was warmed up I cut 8 cookies with it will use it this weekend to get 1 face cord see how it goes.
