Fellas, I'm doing some grinding on a 084 cylinder and thinking about the intake tonsil and what does it do.
My 088 does not have one and the pistons are the same.
Does anyone have experience with removing the thing or strong opinions on removal or retaining?
Thanks in advance.

Afaik It holds the rings,

the 038 has one and most peeps just reduce it a little and smooth it for a better flow

I’d leave it in. As said above, it stabilizes the rings at BDC. Your 088 may have a lower intake roof, I am not sure on that.

Most intake flow takes place at the floor of the port. The tonsil allows you to widen the port and still keep rings stable.
