I am leaning towards hunting down another cable. As there is no definite stop when I depress my button.

This is from T.34.85 technical information. I got all this info guess I should read it more.
If your cable is stretched, maybe it’s possible to add some length to the sheathed portion. Like a tiny washer or a piece of brass tubing. Just cut a slot in it and pinch it back together over the cable

Below is mine fully depressed, I can push down till it bottoms out, but it’s just flexing.

My lever does not quite go down as far as yours. Or at least it seems not to. So the definite stop is in the lever and not the button?

On this one of mine the button does bottom out, but it seems to pretty much coincide with the cable lever hitting full cable travel at the same time, there seems to be a Very slight Increase in resistance Just before the button bottoms.
