I like the 395 for the carb boot and quad port cylinder. It gets a little better mileage that way and doesn't seem to have vapor lock problems. Everything else is pretty well the same besides the crank ends and the flywheel.

I did find on my 394 to 395 swap.
That the carb box/ housing is just a little bit different from the two.

It's was close enough with the 394 carb to make everything fit.
But I got a new 395 carb from a friend. And it changed things enough that I just ordered a 395 housing.

Is the gain worth holding out for a 395 over a 394?

Sorry Brewz, I've been filling out invoices:(:BangHead:. Ditto to what Mdavlee said about the carb boot and quad port design cylinder. I find the 395xp has just a hair wider power band than the 394xp and yes, I would hold out for a 395xp.

394 cylinders are NLA. You want a 395 if you plan to mill with it. I've milled with all of them and the 395 is the easiest to use. It's a big case so you loose about 1" more of usable bar for milling. Used stock ones go for around $700-900 USD. Shipping to OzLand will probably get you.

I know a walnut veneer cutter who ran a 66 for years, then switched to an 084, which he still likes. He ran a 395 and never looked back, has nothing good to say about a 66 now.

Muffler modded saws only, he's never ran a ported saw

394/5 hands down. In the stuff you cut over there it would be better I'm sure with the better oiler.

Two of the better running saws I've had in recent years were a 394 and a 395 that I put 372XT carbs on. I had to switch the 394 to external impulse with a brass nipple in the wall of the transfer tunnel similar to Jonsered 2094/2095. The 394/395 with the RWJ-4 carb is a winner.

Started up my 395 in the shop the other day with the bar off and no clutch cover. They certainly do put out some oil. Had a nice trail from the bench to the front door.

If you do experience the 394 vapor lock on a mill (like I have), it becomes a pain in the asz. A friend gave me the advice to just refuel with the saw running. For that one reason I sometimes wish I had the 395. I've milled a bunch w/ mine using a 36" b/c and the oiler has no issue keeping up. A simple base gasket delete and muff mod woke it up pretty nice.

Na....... I dont plan on any auto tune saws just yet.
I will use the 2100 for now and keep an eye out for a nice 395xp.

The 090 is going to get a workout on this bit of ironbark, over 4' wide.
Shame its rotten in the middle but should get a few nice slabs off it.

You don't know it yet, but you do be a hankering for some real milling saw action. Check out this sweet, sweet dolmar in action :p

Send your stihls out the door, everyone walk the dolmar saw. :borra2:

I am liking the color of that sawdust more!

Did you mill the log in the background?
Its got plenty of elevation and downward angle.
