Stihl 034 performance

I have been thinking a lot
I don't use small saws a lot.
Anything more than about 8" and I am firing up my 044 or more.

So I figure I only need 1 small saw........ but which one?

I have a ported 026 and never use it
I have an 024 to rebuild
I have an 036 to rebuild

Now thay are some fine saws for sure but............

I have love of Stihl 0x4 series saws.
I love them. No questions. My favorite series!
At this present time my 2 favorite saws ever are my 044 and 064.
I am also building an 084 which will not be going anywhere.

So, I'm thinking of looking to get an 034 to beef up.
I know an 036 will be better but..................

Badges and top covers are pretty low cost.

No. Porting and outlet and muffler differ.

I'm pretty sure the muffler difference was with the 034av needing that spacer with the smaller bore cylinder. I'll have to take a peek at each cylinder to see where they are with port timing. I don't know why I haven't already done that.

The muffler has a baffle kind off like a 028 and front is different. The intake port way different.

I believe there is also an early 034 model which had open port transfers. That cylinder will look way different.
I can't remember where I got this picture but I didn't take it.

A 340 is open port

The top cover is different and the cylinder is shaped different.
If you put a 034 super cylinder on your 036 you have to trim under the cover to make it fit.
034 super has a spacer at the muffler and cylinder

@jmssaws , didn't you just do a 6100? How does that compare to this 034super? Powerwise and handling...I'm sure that the AV is much better on the 6100.

I have an 034 super. I was working on an 034. I ran the 2 against each other with the same bar and chain and there was not much difference. On a 16 sec cut the 034S was a couple tenths faster.
