I was looking for some help on a stihl 009 .

the saw runs fine when cold. But after it warms up and been run for 5 mins when pulling the throttle it Boggs and dies like the there’s not enough fuel..if you let it sit and cool down it runs fine then back to the same problem..

does anyone know somewhere to start looking for the problem ie carb or could it be the coil. Btw it’s had a new spark plug in it. But I guess it could still be the spark a duff plug, ?

It’s not my saw it’s a friends saw o_O

I should add, when warm and the bogging problem starts when opening the throttle, it sometimes happily ticks over and sometimes it dies..

Sounds like the fuel line might be kinked and brittle/old. When it warms up, it clogs and bogs. The fuel filter might be clogged also.

I will go through the saw step by step and hopefully find the problem.
I originally thought split/cracked fuel line as the tank was half full when it first starting to play up. Filling the tank seemed to fix the issue for a short while. But it could have been coincidence. As later it made no difference

Hopefully it’s an easy fix ;)

Had a somewhat similar problem on 2 Dolmars. I'm fairly certain it was the fuel filters. One got a filter and plug and the other a filter, plug, lines checked, and carb kit as it was acting up a bit before. So the common item appeared to be the fuel filter on both. They both started bogging and would die in the cut. They would restart fine and rev but couldn't handle any load. I also ditched that can of gas since it affected both saws which seemed odd and I did try one saw with new mix in a different can before changing anything and it didn't help. So something must have got in the 1st can or got some bad gas or mix to plug the filters.
Good luck!

Well today I changed the spark plug, the fuel line & filter. I also checked the carb, it was spotless.
The saw ran great for a bit then did what it did before :BangHead:. edit, ran great for 10 mins and got hot and then bogged when the throttle was pulled.

So my next question is the coil bad ? Is there another coil that will fit it easily ? Hopefully that I already have ie a 039 or 029

i will have a look at the ipl and see if it can figure it out. As I don’t have the saw with me

Btw it’s not a 009 like I thought  but it’s the next one up, 010avs

i think I,m going to have to bring the saw home next time.

So the 009/010av uses the 1306 coil and the 039 uses the 1300 coil.

the ipl shows that both have ht leads that are easily unscrewed.

so I guess I will have to offer them up and just try and see if it is “the problem”

Is the fuel tank venting

Yes it is.
I checked by opening the fuel cap as soon as it happened this last time and it still bogged. the clear fuel tank breather has a grub screw and it’s not gunked up either.

I should have got a vid when it happened but I was to dam mad…. At the time…

I’ve been thinking about a few of the possibilities.
Although I think it’s the coil, i haven’t ruled out the carb or the impulse.
my eyes are still wide open to anything and everything….
