Talk about a flung chain .I saw this women at the Ohio championships at the Paul Bunyan show toss a chain on an 084 Stihl that broke the case and sliced her up in the process .I don't remember who she was but she was also a damned good operator .I tossed one once also on an 084 that I had forgotten to tighten the bar .It smacked me in the leg but I had a set of chaps so no cuts .

Agreed, but he already cut it in half with a hacksaw in disgust. Do you think he will give me $15 to replace it? No entire way.

Just because you have not experienced the whiplash of a broken chain or worse the dreaded 'chain shot' it don't mean it doesn't exist or pose a risk. 'If' the guy insists on removal of the roller catcher make sure he at least has the regular alloy one fitted that bolt to the case. 14k RPM 90cc saws with such chain speeds have there risks. I won't run a saw without a chain catcher. Also I think putting a steel sleeve over the plastic or porcelain one is a stupid idea.
