I would have thought be opposite of your results

I got an older 661 on my bench that someone had pulled that cap off of. I ported it, got the coil and intake swapped to the newer versions, then sent it to Redbull for testing. With the fuel soaked HD2, and the spitback cap gone, it was a turd. With the cap back in and a MaxFlo.......she woke up. It's the little things most of the time. Like Jason found on muffler opening......

I would have never thought the filter being soaked would rob so much power ,it must catch the fines in the air and clog it up tight . I am wondering how much noise can be muffled putting the spitback shield back in also ,i am trying different things to make them quiet these days .I am going to see if they will fit in the 440 saws also ,not sure if will or not the way the inners are shaped .

Years ago on Racesaws.....Timberwolf did a boatload of muffler opening testing. Over 100% of exhaust outlet size and stuff starts getting weird.

There's a name I was thinking about the other day, Timberwolf. I enjoyed reading his post and watching his videos! Anyone know anything about him?

The 460 and 461 have one, but nothing in the 044. Hence the foam.

Get a MaxFlo and move on.

It's simple, the moisture closes up the openings in the filter. Put a dry washcloth over your face and take a breath, now soak the washcloth and try again.

This also compounded by the microscopic fines that normally pass through the filter are now trapped by the moisture.

I imagine this is why It was always hard to restart after I shut it off to fill the tank

I'm guilty of removing them whenever possible. I'll have to start putting them back in!

With the filter soaked full of fuel, air is not going to flow through it.

So, why are the spitback covers not on 044/440s, and would they benefit from one? I don't have them on any of my saws, but I may start putting them back on. I thought they just restricted air flow.

Doesn't the 044 use that piece of green coarse foam? An 084 I worked on had the foam too
