I don't think much about it. NGK comes stock in all my Hondas so that's good enough for me. Bosch plugs are garbage far as I'm concerned.

Correct. The 4626 is a BPMR7A. I have one in my hot hands. That is what I use also.

NGK, DENSO are good but not available near me, have had bad luck with Champion.
I have had two bad NGK plugs (out of the same box of ten) a few years back.
Anything super-mass produced like these can have a bad egg every now and then.....

NGK is what what i have used since bosch plugs ive gotten are no longer made in Germany. Seemed like the quality went down hill when the started coming out of India and Brazil. Never had any problems with any NGK plugs in saws, quads, or bikes. Quality seems to be there. Never tried the denso plugs, and not a big fan of champion.

NGK, Bosch or Denso - anybody got any good mods for plugs? I'd love to have access to a Denso Gold Palladium wire plug for saws, I doubt they would ever foul. They'd also bump the compression a tad.

As far as standard plugs, a spark will require less voltage to bridge from a sharp edge and also to clean steel on the side strap. I used to use a 'points file' (I don't know if you can still get them) to clean up the centre electrode so it was flat with no rounded edges and then file the underside of the strap to get clean steel with no corrosion.

Anybody else have some tricks for plugs?

Our shop is mostly mowers and the boss is big on Champion but we carry a half decent selection of NGK that covers the stuff we sell. If the NGK one isn't on the shelf, I put in the Champion equivalent. We push the thought process of an annual service which include a new spark plug and this homeowner crowd doesn't put much time on a saw so failures aren't seen.

I tell people to use whatever the manufacturer recommends.

I use NGK. I was just looking on the net and Repairpartsmart.com has the solid NGK's for $1.60 each plus shipping. Would cost me $43.95 for 20 of them shipped.

the shipping was $11.95 for me also. Buying 20 with shipping still beats most places

If they can ship 30 for $11.95 it gets the cost down to $1.99 per plug

I index the plugs so the spark points towards the intake.

When it comes to a well worn plug, yes. - Some people may re-gap their plugs after awhile, but it isn't just the air gap that causes resistance across the gap. The sharp edge and clean steel can bring an old plug back to factory specifications.

I've done it lots of times, it saves buying new plugs. Take an old plug and lever up the side strap so you can see the under surface and then start filing. You might be surprised at how much filing it takes to clean up the surface. Then file the centre electrode flat and re-gap.
