Non replaceable tip? At least that's what it looks like to me. $55 seems kind of steep if that's the case.
Ya but in my neck of the woods I have never seen anyone (except my self) put a new tip on. Everyone just buys a new bar. So a cheaper more available option is niece to have.

Apples to Oranges....are'nt we comparing a solid RSN bar to a laminated aluminum core? I like those new Versa cut bars but if they are laminates??...perhaps comparison with other laminated bars is better. I am making a few assumptions in this post.
This is not a comparison just showing something new that at least myself would be interested in buying. The Tsumara is just the only thing I had on hand that is some what comparable and if you went by Oregon's marketing it had to be just as good. ( insert sarcasm tone here) lol
Do u have pics of the whole bar??

Here it is on the 6100. 20170211_171610.jpg

So how does the 6100 handle with the NK bar on it?

I note that there isn't a 20" bar offered in NK. Bugger, hopefully my old Husky 20" NK bar will hold up for a few more years.

I find that I need around 6 degrees of cutting angle on the NK chain on bigger saws (60cc+). If you filed the rakers using the husky raker plate on the softwood setting, it will set the VP95 chain to 5.7 degrees and will take advantage of the NK chain - and you can still use an 8-pin.

I beat it pretty hard today. But one day isn't going to tell anything. It is fairly stiff and handled a really good pinch with no sign of damage. So that is a plus.

Thanks for the info. My next question was going to be if anyone had pinched one good and if the bar held up.

I think Corey has the NK on his 421 and full sized 3/8 on the 6100.

NK on a 60cc saw does sound very zippy though!

That is correct it is a 20" standard 3/8 on the 6100. I have been tempted to throw that little 16" NK (that is on the 421) on to the 6100. I think it would rip if I could get the chain set up right for it

I do have a 20 nk speed cut in stock.

On the SpeedCut bars Oregon claims to have improved the quality of the nose sprocket, extending the life (presumably to that of the bar?).
Note that they no longer have grease holes. The 'debris sheild' looks similar to what is on STIHL nose sprockets.

So you buy a $55 lightweight "laminate" bar and when you wear it out you buy another for $55... or you buy a $100 lightweight solid bar with RSN and when you wear out the tip you can replace it for $20 (plus labor if you don't replace the tip yourself).

Seems you'd have to wear out three tips to be ahead with the Tsumura RW. And at that point your rails would be heavily worn. I haven't yet worn out a bar, although I'm also not a logger. For firewood hacks and homeowners doesn't this seem like something interesting? Your post of "apples to oranges" seems quite dismissive. We don't all need pro grade saws, or RSN bars to cut wood.

So there is a 20" NK bar, that's great news.

Here's something to try, you don't have to run the bars to do it. Just bolt on a 20" 3/8" bar and chain on the saw and move it around and check the balance. Then bolt on the 20" NK bar and chain and see how it changes the feel of the saw.

After I tried that, I got rid of the solid steel 20" bar on my 029 (64cc) and made some mods to the get the bar to fit and oil. It was like picking up and handling two different saws. One was 'nose heavy' the other was 'tail heavy'.

As Derf mentioned, not everybody is a commercial cutter. As a 69 year old firewood hack, the lighter NK bar works great for me and will likely last a long time before I ever wear it out.

If I have time I will try and measure the weight of the bars and chains. What saw do you have?

You said $55 list price but maybe a more important price to post would be what these bars are going to realistically sell for......I mean a 20" powermatch bar lists for $66 but I sell them for $34 and it's pretty easy to find them for under $50 almost anywhere. Is a realistic price for these going to be in the mid $30's for 18-20" bars???? If so they are definitely a contender that will be appealing compared to the tsumura and sugi reduced weights

Good point .
Most dealers should be able to sell these around that $40 mark Pretty easy. The shorter bars and nk are a little cheaper as well.

What saw do you have?

I've got the 20"NK bar on my Stihl 029 'sleeper' - 64cc 390 jug, modded carb, muffler, homemade air filter, re-timed and of course the NK bar. I'm waiting for the domed piston to become available. It appears stock...

I don't suggest such a project saw for most people, you have to mod the 029 cases to oil the smaller NK bar, turn down the bar studs, re-drill the bar for the oil and create a front bar adjuster. The Dolmar with the standard K095 mount is a far easier mod.

34 for a 20" powermatch. Guess I need to lower my prices. Wanna see how low we can go?
