Did 17 years of plowing. It sucks until or if you get paid. The big contacters always pay, late, but pay. The rest is a craps shoot with bussinesses parking lots. Private customers are always paying up with a smile and sometimes tips. I may may have to go back to it to make the ends-meet in winter.

we only plow for our full service clients - if we dont have a contract for the mowing, mulching, etc then we wont plow
luckily most of the companies that are professional around here have the same policy and if a customer stiffs somebody, everybody knows about it and that place cant get anything but fly by night service
it is just too hard on the trucks to justify the hassle and expense and maintenance for the on again, off again snow we get here
we have done alot more salting than plowing this year so far
several snowfalls of less than an inch followed by warming in the afternoon and bitter nights with refreezing

only had one bad pay experience, the year we got 22" in a day and had a lot of snow all winter, a chain of self storage centers called us in January and asked if they could pay 70% of their invoices for snow and then the other 30% in the first week of June, they offered to sign a three year renewal on the full service contracts for all three of their locations we took care of
they had always been a straight shooter, pay on time, customer so we agreed
around here we do the annual budget to account for zero snow dollars of income, then when it falls the only additional expense is the salt itself
