This has been my favorite splitter for the last few months. She busted up about 7 cords of oak before my handle gave out, cracking at the midpoint of the handle. A bit of a bummer, because I really liked the Amish made handle, purchased on Etsy.

Next hang I'm going to try tdhandle.com

I'm not sure if this would be considered a tasmanian, or perhaps a hosier? Comes in at 4.5lb for just the head with some light blue paint remaining.
That's a good splitting profile,

Really nice axe! I’ll bet that does split well, good weight and great profile so as not to get stuck.
Yeah I thought the flat cheeks would grab, but instead they seem to pop the wood right apart!

I like to split my logs as they lie, in a pile. Lots of swinging at pieces that are on their side. This profile really works well for that purpose.

That axe is officially dangerous on both ends
Vampire killer stab & slash! 😅

I have a couple handles that are too short for my Dragon Slayer, I'll fit one to this ax head.

Upon closer inspection that handle was a bit compromised by bug infestation, but it broke along the grain.

Looks like that axe is designed for chopping but not splitting. The void behind the lower part of the bit leaves the handle wider than the metal due to the taper of the head, which means the handle is going to take a beating on the leading edge. You can see it's taken a lot of impacts before it broke. Interesting design, though, just not the best for splitting.

You have not tried my Dragon Slayer, near identical profile but fully wedge shaped without the concave cheecks!

David is coming to Croatia to try it out and then start US made mass production. 🙃

It is a typical ex-Yugoslavian design, was well represented in the olden days when every village had a blacksmith or two.

Nowadays hardware stores push sales of slender near wedge less axes and beefy mauls.
