1508202650689.jpg Was given this axe from a neighbour, it was so rusted that the makers marks were not legible and the head weight stamp looked like a dent. Gave it a go on the wire wheel and started sanding the handle. Let's just say I was quite happy when the makers mark became readable.....

Ya its only a 2-1/4lb head with 26" handle, but when the 'made in Sweden' revealed itself under the HB mark, I went from thinking I was cleaning up a cheap China rusty pos to WOW, we better do this thing properly & put it where the other hand forged axes live away from the fiskars & other cheapies. Used it a bit on the woodpile and she cuts good, the edge had been messed up by whoever sharpened it last, the sides were very unequal but after an hour of axe zen time its looking good. Stripped the lacquer coating and paint off handle, just wondering now if olive oil will be OK as the linseed oil is n/a in the shed. Nearly turned down the offer to own this as it was rusted bad, & I did not expect it to be what it is.

Most of my axes have been given to me by little old ladies who's husbands passed many years ago. I find the axe outside neglected blunt & rusty, offer to fix it up for them & they just give them to me saying I got no use for it. Got a nice Plumb 'Tasmanian' (5lb head) with Phantom bevels this way...I have eight axes & I only bought 2 of them (fiskars x27/x25). While I don't mind the X27, it works OK, its just not on the same page as the older hand forged ones with handles that had design thought put into them. You can really tip some time into restoring a neglected one though hand sanding, hand filing, stone dressing & oiling but its all worth it when you take one to the woodpile and use them.

That looks like a nice sized Ax. It splits as well as the Fiskars X27?
What size handle do you have on it?

Its about 34" handle and about a good 25%+ more destructive than the X27...hits hard. I split some pretty funky wood species so finding their limits is easy. Its just a really nice axe to use, well balanced, not to hard steel not to soft. To be honest I don't use my X27 much anymore.

What's the price range Heath?

High to Damn High.

I’ve not seen any with the Phantoms in 4 1/2 # Plumb on this side of the water.

The only ones I’m seeing would cost over $100 with Shipping from AUS., head only.

Or this one
