Mike you should have died the plastic. this saw is gorgeous on the inside but tough to look at on the outside.

I mean we have all enjoyed evening with girls like that but.....
I still have the saw so it’s not to late but dying the plastics is up to @bigbadbob.

I have never dyed plastics,, somebody got a link.
I believe the saw was a loggers B4 I aquired it, probably had a tough life.
It needed a bunch of small stuff done to it.
CFB has done a stunning job!!!

Thanks Bob. I can dye the plastics if you’d like. It’s pretty easy. I just have to pick up some more Rit dye.

Do you think the covers are worth doing??
They looked a little beat up??
The covers have some scrapes and gouges but they’ll take the dye ok. They likely won’t be really shiny. The black colour will help to kinda camouflage some of the scratches.

Great work. There are sleeper rat bikes, sleeper rat rods, why not a sleeper rat saw?
LOL I like!!
I usually cut by myself, but now and again with some weekend warriors from the city,, ms170 is a big saw to them.
Its absolutely a riot to go cut with them. Last time out they decided not to unhook the trailer to pull a log out,, trailer has 3ft metal sides,, well the front of the trailer caved because they put a rope from the hitch over top the trailer,to the log,,log had a bit more resistance than thought. We did get it fixed later, took a few road pops.
They are a great bunch of people.

I know there is a thread on this somewhere, but can you give us a quick rundown on how you do them?

RIT and hot water?
Yuppers. RIT fabric dye and water. Just heat the water and dye mix to a low simmer and add the plastics. I usually leave em simmering for at least an hour. The longer they soak the deeper the dye penatrates.

it werent a rat, just used, imo.
did lil weld b4 mike got it.

does dye do anything to tags [plastic or metal] if theyre there?
thinkin bout doin one o mine.
I saw the weld job. It looks really good. Solid, probably better then new.
The dye works on just about every plastic saw part that I’ve dyed. Even works on fuel tanks.
