7.00. Id be so wealthy with that kind of money. A trashed chain with high rakers costs the customer the same. I saw my local dealer is charging 9.00 a chain or 2 for 16.
I run a small shop so most chains i get look like they were cutting pavement so i have to take off quite a bit. I use a pink wheel on these. For the chains that are just slightly dull i can use the CBN wheel and only take off a few thousandths. If i tried to use the CBN on a trashed chain it would take 3 different passes. Not for $7 a chain.

This has always bothered me. How do the automatic sharpeners not high temp the teeth? They don't bump and slow grind or walk around 3 times?

Other guys around me are 7 so i charge the same. Most of them are hacks. The local stihl dealer charges extra to do rakers. One dealer won't even sharpen chains. Only sells new ones.

Had a guy bring me 4 or 5 chains awhile back after my wife told him I sharpen. He said that they were the best sharpened chains he had used and that he had more to send me. He send 19 chains the other day and I'm working through them. He's a ranch owner down the road and said he just bought an new chain when his old one got dull because he coulnd't get anyone to do a good sharpen on them. Weird, but hey, at $7.00/ea, he can bring me all he wants.

What are you guys doing to clean your chains before sharpening them?

For cleaning chains I use old two stoke gas and blow dry them
For cleaning a CBN wheel a ultra sonic cleaner does better than any other method I have tried

If I had a heap of dirty chains to clean I'd probably lay them out & hit them with the pressure washer. Never tried it but bet it would have them sparkling clean.

I have tried a lot of things. If I had a lot of chains to do, and had a parts cleaner, I might use that.

Ultra sonic cleaner works but it is slow.

Lye (sodium hydroxide) works best and fastest for me. The water based degreaser that I use has it. You can sometimes buy it plain at the hardware store. You can order food grade lye online.

No fumes. Rinses clean. Soak 3-5 mins, followed by a little toothbrush action and a rinse. Almost clean enough to return to the dealer.
