It is a two piece outer dog. The guy that makes them did it that way so it would line up with the inner one. The 550/555/562xp have captive bar nuts so you can not just put the otter dog over the bar studs and then install the nuts.

I wouldn't beat it up too much, installing dual dogs on this saw isn't easy. It's going to get bark and chips packed in everywhere which would bug the hell out of me but to each his own.
