I have seen where some folks are " hanging " their saws, bar pointing down to the ground. Is there any harm in doing that ? As long as the tanks are empty they souldnt leak or very little. What about prolonged periods (6 months )? Any carb issues that could arise? Guess not everyone has horizontal shelf space.
If this has to go in another sub forum, i understand

I drove spikes in a large TF beam in my barn, and hang my saws off those. Then I run a 3/8" hardened logging chain through the handles, anti-theft device.

I had someone break in a few years ago, only had 5/16" chain. They pried the barn door open then found a hacksaw in my tools. They then proceeded to cut the chain............I came home to find the door open and just a 009 saw left on the beam. Thought I was cleaned out.

Then I saw the rest of the saws, all of them on the floor, WTF? I found a bloody hacksaw, bloody chain pieces, and blood all over the floor. Seems they needed to go get a hand fixed at the ER rather than try to carry the saws off.

Cops did not care or collect any evidence (blood, fingerprints, etc) , "nothing was stolen".

All my cutting and grinding tools are now hidden, and saws are secured with the 3/8" chain

At work here there are about 40 saws all hanging with the bars pointing down. The fuel tanks are purged, though oil in the oil tanks. Under them is a tray of cat litter that catches oil that drips down. No issues with dropping in fuel and starting them up.

I've one of my saws,an 038 that needs new seals in the oil pump. It pisses out the oil into the bar scabbard when hung by the handle. I have to remember not to refill that one at the end of the day and check the scabbard after I take it down from hanging .

Interesting, wondering whether it was the chains or the bucking spikes? Guessing that is another really good reason to always keep the chains very sharp!

I think it was either the chain he/she/it was cutting or the hacksaw slipped. I wish I had one of my game cameras setup in the barn.

I would hook the chain up to a 40a circuit…

Yeh, got to do something. Sounds like the law enforcement you have is about as useful as the prima dona we're stuck with.
