Just an update from me on my 372xp Kris ported and did a muffler mod ...I finally got some time on it yesterday and today cutting firewood and I am very pleased and quit impressed with the way it runs .
I ran a few tanks through it and it ran flawlessly!
Two thumbs up to Kris and a big thank you !

I haven't had the chance to do a huge amount of cutting with my Echo CS-500P that S&S modified, but from what I have done I am really impressed. I knew this mild mannered saw had alot more potential and Kris really brought it out. Will talk more about it when I run it some more.

Really wish they'd bring stuff like that back. I never really knew how good I had it coming up I guess. I grew up riding 2 stroke dirt bikes. When it broke (weekly) my father would sit and walk me through fixing it myself.

Our school where I graduated from and my kids go still has a shop and is slowly gaining equipment and funding again. I help whenever possible by donating some supplies and materials and last fall a bunch of pines needed removal on school property. The shop teacher and I thought it was a good opportunity to show the kids how to make logs into lumber on my band mill. Still need to finish last few logs this spring and check out/ demonstrate how to set up the one wire feed welder.

Ok, today I ran a few tanks of fuel through my Echo CS-500P that Kris did for me. Had the 18" bar buried in a big walnut that blew down last year and was still hard as a rock. She pulled strong in every cut, I would say even beyond the very strong tuned and muffler modded Dolmar 5105 I used to have. I'm very happy with this saw, and would recommend Kris to anyone!

That said, I've never had a ported saw before and am still getting used to it. Do they tend to want a richer air fuel ratio than a stock saw that is tuned properly? I know the carb settings are going to be different because the engine is now inhaling and exhausting more air, but I mean does a ported engine have tend to want more fuel on top of compensating for greater air intake? She has some visible smoke at idle and the exit hole of the muffler is noticeably wet. Fuel consumption has gone up a fair amount. None of this seems to be a problem, I'm just wondering if that is typical for a ported and higher compression saw?

Also, when the engine is ported does that mean the factory service instructions for setting the carb go out the window? In the past I've always used the OEM adjustment procedure as a baseline and then tuned to my preference after that. Sorry for the dumb questions!

I tend to tune them pretty fat when I send them home. Also it could be running even richer now depending on your elevation and a magnitude of other factors. When you go to tune it just do as you would any other saw and then open it just a tad extra on the H side. Maybe someone else will chime in with some better tuning advice but that's how I would recommend tuning it.

Ok, I went ahead and reset the carb according to the Echo factory procedure and all seems well. Idle at 2800, WOT at 12 with 18" bar and chain attached. It now starts and idles a lot better. I'll tune the high speed next time I cut with it.

Oh yes, I'm planning on it. I normally will adjust a saw gradually over several cutting sessions to figure out what works best.

Maaaan, there is nothing fun about doing any kind of work on a top handle.
I appreciate it but I'm pretty booked up currently. If someone sent me a saw today they can expect about a 6 week turn around time.
I only do this in the evenings after my day job and have actually had to hire a local high school kid to tear saws down for me and keep the shop clean. Well clean-ish.
