Rivet nut tool?

Which rivet nut tool are ya'll using? Thinking about getting one to put a few deflectors on some mufflers. I'm sure I'll find other uses for it so I want to get a decent one. Amazon reviews are all over the place. Thanks guys.

I have the AmJoy set, but the latest mandrels I bought had another brand name. Parts fit just fine.

I'll admit I don't use it much but when you need it, the fasteners are pretty slick.

Yes, the additional mandrels too. I recently added 6-32, 8-32, and 10-32 mandrels. I already had the rivnuts but had been using the rude & crude method with a screw to set them. The tool does a much nicer job and a lot more efficiently too.

I have a cheapo set off eBay. I can’t recommend it. The threads are too soft.

On mufflers, make sure you use steel inserts. The alloy and aluminum ones can’t handle vibration.

I found some 304 stainless steel ones on Amazon that I will order when I figure out which tool to get.

So how does that work? Hold the nut with a wrench and turn the bolt counterclockwise?

I've got a cheapo. It doesn't work consistently, never has.

I use a large self tapping screw when my rivet tool is having a bad day.

Wait, are you saying you set the rivet nut with a nut and bolt? Or you use a bolt and nut instead of a rivet nut?

Search You tube and you will see others cinching them up just by inserting a screw and turning it tight or using a nut on a bolt to pull the rivnut up tight. It helps if the rivnut fits tightly in the hole so it won't turn.

The whole idea is to pull the "riv" end of the "nut" like a pop rivet. If you don't have the proper mandrel, of it space does not permit the use of the tool you can get by just turning the screw to swell the rivet end.

When I searched that, it came up as a pop rivet gun. Not a rivet nut tool.

The one we have at work is a Marson. It has served us well over the years, but you must make sure you set it up correctly and never double clutch it.

I got a decent one from amazon, came as a kit with a good range of sizes and mandrels and it was pretty cheap but not rubbish. Its paid for itself over and over. Dont go by reviews they are like you said all over the place. If you dont like it you can return it, simple

I have the “Smitty” brand one off Amazon. It works pretty well.

Back when I worked in a factory building wood stoves (almost 20 years ago now that I think about it…) we’d use a pneumatic version I think it was made by souix tools. Those worked really well.
