im assuming but dont want to waste any red cote without getting advice from some of you former users. Do you just pour the ted cote into the tank and swirrel it around for coverage and the pour what doesnt adhere out? What is curing period? Thanks, trying to seal an old tiller tank

Hey .... it's Red-Kote ... yes, make sure the tank is coated completely over the leak area and you can pour out the excess. I'd let it air dry for a week be fore using .... and would drain the tank between those uses.

Good luck!

I was thinking bout you when i typed it. Thanks much. Ive done some reading since i posted this; shudda read before posting. But anyway. FYI im patching fuel tank on old B&S powered Atlas T201 tiller. Not that it makes any difference but thought you might be curious.
This is my plan
1. Patch some small holes with jb iron stick. Knock it down where protrudes inside if i get to it in time. Let it cure in sun for couple hours
2. Although rust is seemingly light i plan to clean it out with muriatic acid. Should i do that before patching holes?
3. wash with hot soapy water
4. rinse with acetone. Blow it out. Set in sun
5. Next day do the red kote covering the carb and filler holes with tape
6. Let dry for a week in the sun
7. Let it rip
Hows that sound?

Now would be a good time to hone your brazing skills on the holes. Or.... just find a decent tank at that scrap yard.

Good luck.

Personally I would skip the acid. It can get into nooks and crannies where it's a biotch to rinse out and cause corrosion later.

I've used Red Kote, and best advice I can offer is to follow the mfgr's instructions to the letter. (They go into great detail about what can lead to a botched job.)
