Recoil problem with Jonsered saw

I have been trying to run this Jonsered with a recoil problems. Here are pics of the saw and the recoils, what do you think? Spring broke on one and the other seems to be damaged, maybe the pawls did that? Thanks.

Ideas? A plastic drum for one .You need enough cord so you aren't constantly pulling it out until it stops with each pull .You need about one more wrap on winding the drum than it takes to fully retract it .I' m not sure about J-red because I've only ever worked on one but Poulan had both metal drums and plastic .The metal are the best if you could find one .
