Unfortunately, most cars look like that. I have found either people take good care of their cars or they don't. Not much middle ground.
Ya, you wouldn’t believe how some people live, have seen some really nasty places! Have done work on one of those in a while! We used to do a lot of fix work for real estate companies, and you would see a lot of bad things! Lol it’s a big change to higher end stuff, where even the smallest amount of dust needs to be accounted for! Lol

Maybe the distributor is off 180 lol.

I laughed, but I also checked to make sure it wasn't running backwards :(
First thing I'll try tomorrow is the other flywheel. Swapping out the coil is a pain - you have to remove the carb box...and these lil things are all fiddly. That will happen second if the flywheel doesn't work. Once thing I did notice was the flywheel that was on the Makita was a bit lighter than the one off the Dolmar.

Some things to note:
The tubing wasn't very tight fitting. The hose from the tank to the bubble came loose(but it still ran!).
The carb boot is a press on fit. No hose band clamp/jubilee clip retainer(jubilee is a brand in the UK). I had to install the carb twice because I am retarded - so, when I installed the boot, I shoved a pinky down it's throat to make sure it was a solid fit to the cylinder since you can't really tell if it's flush from the outside. The tightness doesn't inspire confidence. But it seems to work fine.
4300 came with a small spark plug, old 420 had a 'standard' plug
Flywheel is a bit wide for this size saw. But I think my 241 flywheel may be even bigger. I'll measure them when I pick up my 241 from the estate.

When I find time to cut on the estate, I'll try to have it next to the heavily ported ms241(that started detonating last time I used it hard), and maybe an Echo 390ESX and an Echo 360WES.

188psi compression and a 17" 325 B&C:

One time I was using my Kubota to roll a couple storm damaged trees over that the root balls were still connected on, I didn't have it running at a very high rpm and it stalled, then the trees took revenge and pushed it backward a couple ft, she started running in reverse .
You'll get it squared away, I'm certain of it :).

Is the timing advance much on the 241.

Timing is 8* ahead on the 241 at the moment. I may take it back some since it's detonating when hot now. It wasn't before, so I dunno what's changed except it was warmer when I ran it last. When I last ran it, it was faster than you see in the vid. But it ran hot.
The 390ESX is the same saw that got stolen off us on the estate. This is it's brother, similar serial #s, too, so a very close match. I did a muff mod on it before I sent it on to a neighboring estate. Every time I visit Waterford, the owner drops by so I can service the saw. If that happens, it would be a good saw to run against the Dolmar even though it isn't ported. The 390 has the same stroke as the 500p even though it's an entirely different chassis. That and the ECHO digital ignition makes the thing pull hard in the wood. It is slow to wind up compared to other 40cc saws, tho.

I just sold another 241 last week, surprised how much I shipped this Christmas season. Usually about the middle of December things slow down, I still have saws going out, works for me.
I think I'm going to get my 242xp out and run it this week, and let my boy run the 201 rear handle.
I like the small saws to rev quick, but I guess if the 390 is quicker in the cut then it may be more efficient overall, kinda like a 372oe vs the xtorq.

The coil and flywheel on the blue Makita hasn’t been started before it come Over too you , but I can’t say if the parts saw was any good on the ignition side
I was pretty sure the later blue and red models all ran the same part numbers

But the serial number is missing on that one and it’s probably a very early 420
So it sounds like there a different coil and flywheel so no mixing

Have company today. I gotta wait till tomorrow to see about the saw. I def am gonna sneak out and compare the serial #'s between the flywheels. That should answer any questions there.
Did these come with tan coils, Andrew? That's what's on the 420 top end. Weren't tan coils 14.5K coils?

OK, the #'s are only slightly different, like a revision. The weight is the same - at least close enough there's no way another magnet is hiding somewhere. I've read the tan coils don't last. So gonna swap them. The screws appear to be loctited. And since the mounts are plastic, I can't use heat. This will be fun. I am gonna try and be ginger with my 18V impact... Worst to worst, I port the other jug.

181 2 1-1 for the DOlmar, 181 3 1/1 for the Makita flywheel.
