Columbian Blacktail… blacktail deer occupy coastal regions of western North America. There are two subspecies, the Columbian black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus) which ranges from the Pacific Northwest of the United States and coastal British Columbia in Canada to Santa Barbara County in Southern California and a second subspecies known as the Sitka deer (O. h. sitkensis) which is geographically disjunct occupying from mid-coastal British Columbia up through southeast Alaska, and south central Alaska (as far as Kodiak Island). The black-tailed deer subspecies are about half the size of the inland Mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus hemionus) subspecies, the latter ranging further east in the western United States. Is that like a Sitka blacktail deer?

The Columbian Blacktail look to get a lot bigger than the variety of Blacktail we have in northcentral Siskiyou County. Biggest mature buck I've seen over here might go 150 lb. Around 120 lb is typical.Columbian Blacktail… blacktail deer occupy coastal regions of western North America. I’ve seen some in the 200 lb. range but that’s a huge blacktail. The Columbian Blacktail look to get a lot bigger than the variety of Blacktail we have in northcentral Siskiyou County. Biggest mature buck I've seen over here might go 150 lb. Around 120 lb is typical.
All those Columbians you've shared pictures of have got 20 lb on the biggest Blacktail I've seen over here. The poachers are hard on them here. I get them on security camera with gun shot wounds year round . Fish and Wildlife are spread thin and most all the poachers are friends and family with the deputy we're stuck with. Most I see aren't more than 3 years. Farther out I've seen bucks that might be 6 or 8 years.I’ve seen some in the 200 lb. range but that’s a huge blacktail.
Where's the Beef and Where's the Firewood?
Pretty sick, only doing the minimum at work. Didn’t feel as bad yesterday so got out for a little.Where's the Beef and Where's the Firewood?
