Ya it was 60° here on the coast!
It’s been 30 years since it was in the +teens here, it rarely is in the +20’s here, this year I still have flowers in my front yard! Been weird! It never gets to 0* here. It’s rare to get into single digit temps, but it happens occasionally.
Yes. And I’m really pissed about it right now.Did you do the whole kitchen?
That sucks man! Oregon law make us do a lot of measures, that are a pain, but in the end help! Oregon law pretty much makes us do contacts for everything, even a t+m contact is a contract. And any change order need to be in writing, also doing text/email messages can save your bacon, even if you just talked to the client, send a text or email confirming the changes or additional work, when they respond it becomes evidence that you had an agreement, if you have a contract with a per hour rate, it is very difficult to dispute. A contract makes your job easier, it is a reference point and can be looked upon in disputes. We have had several well ment disputes, (like I thought we were getting this or that) and when you can go back to a contract that states, miller Navaho white paint with brilliant white trim, they can come back on you and say that’s not the color I wanted? Well actually on page four of the specifications page it says this and you signed it! Then they say, ya I remember that, how much to change it? Contacts keep people honest! They are a lot of work!! The house we are doing now, we spent 100’s of hours on the contract to make sure we didn’t get burned! And there is always the chance you missed something! I highly recommend them, and be detailed, the more detail the the easier it makes doing the job and the more prepared you are! The more money the client has, the more they want to keep it! Hope I don’t come off like .... but I hate seeing that happen to anyone!Yes. And I’m really pissed about it right now.
My brother gave her a bid for cabinets and counters, and she gave him the go ahead to do the work. Then she told him that she wanted us to tear out the old cabinets... and then it evolved into removing the soffets, patching the drywall, painting, doing a bunch of electrical and plumbing, installing the flooring, and tiling the backsplash... I finished up tonight and left her an invoice for all of the extra work. She wasn’t home when I left the house, so I sent her a message saying that I left the invoice on her desk for all the work I had done.
Well, she sent me a text saying that she was under the impression that it was all included in the cabinet price, and she wasn’t paying me the money that she owes me... (included in the total was over $1000 in materials and labor for a guy to help me, which I have already paid out of my own pocket)!
What the *f-word is so wrong with people that they think I am going to do 120 hrs of work and fork out $1000 of my own money, and not get anything in return?!! Of course I don’t have a contract so I’m pretty much screwed.... What am I supposed to tell my kids?! Sorry, some rich old *b-word thinks I work for free, so no food for you this month!!!
I’m so *frenching pissed right now. God I hate people.
Hope you have a lawyer or a friend that is a lawyer. One phone call from one might motivate her and help her understand. Best of luck. This is a lady I’ve known since I was a kid, and just never thought she would do this sort of thing. We only did the work as a favor, and honestly messed up our schedule big time to squeeze all this stuff in. She was super nice throughout the whole process, and now I know why... she thought she was getting all this work for free, and that put her in a good mood.
*s-wordty part is they just bought a bunch of land adjoining their property and a new backhoe, but can’t understand why I would want to be payed for my work. Shes actually pissed at me for giving her an invoice!
