Depending on what county you're in here they use limestone or flint rock.
And I'm pretty sure they still use oil out here of that dust free treatment people will get a couple hundred feet in front of their drive way.

How old is that sucker you think?

They used to use coal ash on the roads in Pennsylvania when I was a kid. Winter traction enhancements!

Curious how the carbide chain will perform.

got a stihl carbide chain here
slower than normal chisel
look at diffs in grind
i use it to clean paint off old beams
some o that paint kills chisel pretty quick
the carbide has seen dozens of sticks, havent had to grind it yet

Checked on my elderly neighbor he was on the ground
After trying to start this Honda mini tiller for 20 minutes IMG_20220601_115723774_HDR.jpg
I drained it out he must've had 2 quarts of oil in this thing.

They’d make a good stump chain then I suppose

I have Stihl Picco Duro3 & Rapid Duro3.
The Rapid Duro3 wasn't far behind any other round filed full chisel work chain, but it raced through sand and mud as if it weren't there. I used that chain a year long on my PS-6400, when I noticed I need to push the saw for the chain to cut I took it off.
Great chain!

My Picco Duro3 is still good, I don't use it much as it is dedicated to a 40cc saw.

Carbide does not like "foreign objects"!
Stones will cause the carbide inserts to shatter and turn the chain to scrap metal.

Mud, dirt and sand are not an issue for carbide, at least not instantly!

Mr. @Philbert , is this a "diamond" or CBN grinding wheel ?
Is there a way to tell the difference?
Any diamond abrasive media I encountered so far was colourless/silver.
This wheel shipped with a grey dressing stone, which makes me think it is a CBN wheel.
I can provide better/different pictures tomorrow.

I am perfectly fine with either, but the adhesives brown colour and the dressing stone kinda threw me a curve ball.

I just want to make sure I know what I have for future posts and possible YT videos.

No harm done if it is in fact a CBN wheel! :)
