Sad deal there. I am a tree lover, especially big, old ones but we have had a lot of trees fall on houses over the past few years. It seems it is getting worse. Could be because of more bad weather but also because the trees that came up when towns were started are now aged. I have seen pics of my hometown when it started, and they wiped most of the trees out. So, most of the trees here now sprouted 100-150 years ago. Now I am considering felling the trees surrounding my home. That'll hurt! I now know that a lot of trees get rotten when they age and giant limbs fall off as well as the entire tree falls or dies. Not to mention a lot of the oaks around here have shallow root systems and a big wind can bowl them over. Plus tornadoes come through and they can wipe out any tree.

I awoke last night to the sounds of a squirrel being torn apart by an owl, he didn't like being woke up either.
One day you're the windshield, next day you're the bug.

That had to be a hell of a sound.

I don't have any squirrels..I have a stray cat I made friends with.

Heard about this on the radio.

Once saw a job where a tree hit chimney. Chimney ended up in the cellar of the two story house.

Took out three of my close big oldies, got five more on my nerves. They were cute when planted.

You don't know much about the force of nature and physics do you...

Take a REAL good look...
Yeah... This was my parents house. Thats only half of the tree. The house broke the tree over the top of it and the other half was laying in street on other side of house. His comment is well placed.

It only broke 5 2x6s. The old pine in this house and dried and hard af.

The tree was a 140' hemlock.

Now what I can say is *s-word happens and this world is ran by circumstances.

It isn't even close to well placed.

This oak tree struck this house at full speed at it's upper end..plus it's downhill..

Had this tree been 20ft away from the house and hit it in the middle section of the tree the damage would have been a fraction of what it is...it had time to build speed before it hit.

The futher away you are from a flagpole if it fell and hit you the more damage it's gonna do..like I said..physics.

Plus I like picking on wayne.

We could debate this all day that tree in photo was small compared to that hemlock. Those photos only show half of one of the tree trunks. The other half is on the other side of house. Where it broke over the top of house.

But it didn't build as much speed before contact.

Physics.
