Facebook is killing all the forums. And I got burned out on posting pictures of saw work a long time ago.
I’m definitely slower this year with porting work compared to years gone by. I’ve had a couple new customers and a few repeats. I don’t mind the extra free time but the extra $ is nicer. I don’t do face book but I suppose if I really wanna increase my current work load I’ll have to make an account. 😒

It did slow down for a bit or so it seemed.....but Bubba has been helping me for about three years now....and we do a lot of saws. We had to start doing rebuilds and used saws again to keep the same level of work that we were used to doing.

I like seeing all the different ways people do their port work, I see you only remove part of the lower extension some remove it all and others remove none of it. Some guys mess with the upper transfers others just clean them up and aim them a touch. Some guys are lowering the intake some but others choose to notch the piston to get same effect on the 201. I’m doing my first 201 this week for my friend at the tree service and I will have more so trying to figure a good method. Doesn’t need to be the best but close to everyone else’s and reliable. First one I’ve already removed the transfer extension.
If you take to much on the lowers you start loosing case compression because you increased case volume there's a fine balance I always take baby steps and try not to go backwards you can really hurt a saws performance if you go to far yes they'll scream like a scolded bandit but once you put it in wood it will be a turd.

CompD just closed down their web forum, facebook took the traffic away. I wish folks could see facebook has nothing over a forum, you can't beat the data base a forum like this one has. Nothing can compare.

But, facebook makes it easy for anyone to engage and toss out an opinion with less accountability. I had to.say less, since there is some accountability, very little though.

Might as well. LOL

MS661
Randy, beautiful work, but I have a question.

On the 661, why so much arch on the intake port?

I've had good results making much flatter on some of the 660s I've played with (well beveled).

My thought process/rationale is there is maximum suction when the port first opens, and you want to get as much air/fuel into the crankcase as possible.

Comments welcome.

What you are seeing is the epoxy in the floor of the port Mike. I drop the jug a lot....because I raise the exhaust a lot....because I want to add blowdown, and set the transfer ports at a certain height. When I drop the jug this much, the intake port becomes too low. If left that low it absolutely sucks fuel....and has a lot of spitback. Here's a closer look.

That and the camera angle. The intake roof probably has more arch than the floor, but the roof looks flatter. Camera trickery
