The only KS cylinders I seen on 460s were late ones around the time of the stihl branded ones.

If you have less intake and more case pressure you get more velocity. If the transfers are too high you lose velocity and flow is lazy. The same with huge upper transfers.
I'll take velocity over flow, I got a no decomp 066 cylinder that was a running SOB until I widened the uppers and opened the lower up, it went from my strongest ever to a turd, absolutely killed it. I'm going to epoxy the transfers back up and c if it will stay in there.

Also going to try raising the transfers by notching the piston instead making the upper huge.

Sounds good to me Bret, fingers crossed it runs as nice as it looks!

I'm starting to accumulate saws with 046 jugs, even if some of em do say 460!

I should PU the new piston, kill switch, etc on tomorrow, and will be back on Wed.

I'll be at the cabin in the mountains for 2 days, no wi fi, and lots of work to do.

Al, you asked for an explanation, I'm gonna wager that you have as good an understanding on the "why" as any of us. I can't tell you why these things like different numbers. I'm just not that smart. Luckily for me, I've done a bunch of saws, so I've been able to see what works, and what doesn't.

On the 046, vs 460 jug. Wiggs has mapped dozens of these jugs. It's rare to find two alike, but not uncommon to see a dozen that all have different timing numbers.

Crazy huh?
Yeah,

My life has a paucity of modest "not that smart" people in it. The ones I surround myself with, in general.

Sounds like you guys had a good time and are building a strong friendship. I think this is awesome. You both are helping each other out in different ways. I'm planning on attending the NY gtg this year and I hope to meet both of you in person.
I was highly looking forward to it, but the Sunday thing makes it a no go for me.

I'm pretty upset about that.

Have you ever epoxied just the exhaust side of the upper? I mean adding material and reshaping the hump that directs flow towards the intake side of the cylinder only.

I need to look at the 046/460 jug I've got here. I may actually go popup on my hybrid.

What I've been seeing from reading a bunch is that small tight uppers and velocity seems to help power more than hogged out giant ports.

I may epoxy the entire exhaust side of both transfers and reshape as well. We shall see.

I bet that you'll gain plenty of velocity from the hybrid itself that this wouldn't be needed

I bet so too. With that 52mm piston pushing down on that tight 440 case it should. Im thinkin there will be enough crankcase compression in reserve that adding fingers without doing much to the uppers may be a good idea?

excuse me kind sir, but we have decided as a "group" that the term "pop-up" is Racist and offensive. we will now be addressing them as "shaped pistons", "altered pistons" or simply "cut pistons"

thank you.:aaaaa:
