Well I was not at all in the market for another saw. Buddy of mine had us come out and cut a couple of his small trees down a few months ago. I knew he had a saw b/c he had complained that it was not good for very much.

About a week ago he asked me what "the bigger" saw was I brought out that day...me & the boys had been out with my MS 261 and MS 400. I told him the 261 would be big enough for anything he would ever have to do.

So today I thought I would text him to see if he bought one...sure enough, got a 261. So I asked him what he was replacing, he said an MS 170. I offered to buy it, sight unseen, just for giggles since my younger sons can mess around with a saw that way. He said sure, come pick it up.

Well, for $100 Canadian he sold me what turned out to be an MS 180, plus a case. The saw is like new. He had been complaining about it not cutting very well...got it home and noticed he had the chain on backward.

Didn't really need one but what the hell, for $100 we'll add it to the collection!9B2FB6AE-9CED-41C8-8D49-47499301BB0E.jpeg

I am not a fan of the tool-less clutch cover/chain adjuster and no adjustment carb, but might be just the thing to get your sons going without having to fuss with tools. Getting chains on backwards happens, sometimes when I am flipping the bar I forget then I have to take it apart, flip the chain around and get it back together. That saw looks to be in nice shape.

Those can be outstanding little saws. One has been my truck saw for about 20 years. Only saw I had for about 10 years and it did a LOT of tree work above it's pay grade. Still runs like new. I have to regularly tighten the few bolts holding the chain tensioner in place or it won't stay adjusted and if I'm not careful putting the filter cover on just so, it'll mess with the linkage. Good buy for $100.
