Oh, also... when I was researching PW solvent, all the water based cleaners were eating the paint off the PW after being left in for any length of time. I think the standard mineral spirits solvent is more "paint friendly" than the water based. As mentioned with the Dawn getting "used up" with a lot of grease, same goes for any of the water based cleaners, but they could be very aggressive initially. Not that this matters for filling a tub and dumping it, but if you are considering a PW, I think it pays in the long run to use the traditional real solvent. To phrase it differently, the water based stuff loses cleaning ability as it gets dirty. The real solvent just gets dirty and can be filtered and used for a very long time. I also like not having to dry all the water off of steel parts before they rust.

I would be more comfortable with a mineral based solvent . Magnesium doesn't like water with certain stuff in it....salt for one unless you want to watch your crank case turn into mush !

I bought mineral based solvent from Napa and it hasn't hurt the paint on my saws at all.

My derpy story...Wife bought me a PW in 04' for my birthday, put in 5 gallons of solvent, pump no worky just made noise. "Oh well, I'll just use it without the pump."...12 years later...."I'm going to try to fix that PW pump since I haven't used it in years." Remove pump cover and discover 5 gallons wasn't enough to submerge the pump pick up. Put in another 5 gallons and presto, pump works. Derp Derp Derp Derp... All this because my wife said she bought me the display unit so I assumed it was broken by a derpy teenager who assembled it for the store.
