If each cutter gets precisely ground on a jig, why did some exl come out of the box with angles all over the fkn place?

I still can't work out why they recommended EXL to be filed at 25 degrees but every single EXL cutter I have seen has its witness mark at 30 degrees and factory grind is anywhere between 10 and 30 on any given loop

The early model RW had issues with inserts coming out , they did get better with later models, but Oregon was warranty to often and probably wasn’t worth the effort to design and reintroduce a new design, I’ve never had a issue, but I’m not a production faller either using it hard every day,

EXL cuts so much better for me after I take a 7/32 file to it - if you can get a file to actually take a bite, and not skate across the cutter.. Oregon’s quality has gone down hill to the point I’m no longer chasing after it.

This. I have put a new loop of exl on, started a face, noticed chain not cutting, cut the saw off, file chain then carry on cutting with much better performance.

I just hope that someone from corporate stumbles across this thread or similiar ones, and takes serious action to make products better.

It would be nice, but I highly doubt any changes would be made. Oregon has a name big enough now that they’re selling it in big box stores. They don’t need to make their product better - they’re selling tons of product the way that it is, which is unfortunate.

I personaly dont buy any of there stuff, I see it at the hardware store, but to me its way overpriced for what it is, I have used there files alot and only because they were from garage sales, local hardware store has a 2 pack for $9, they can keep them for that.

It’s just like the great saw shops that use to be in small towns across this country, there seldom seen anymore, The big box store and the large conglomerates they work with. have taken all that away,

Oregon bars (cheap laminate) and chains (semi chisel) have been mounted on generic supermarket chainsaws for a decade or so.
Why would they bother with a few pros when the homeowner masses don't know any better and buy a chitload of it.

I buy old stock Oregon chains whenever I can.
Otherwise it is X-Cut Full Chisel for me, local and better cutting yet more affordable than Stihl.
