It's good. It's a overhead valve/push rod motor and the noise is in the top.

I had a honda xl350 dirt bike that had a noise in top end.
Finally figured out that the cam was sloppy in the head, no bushings Just aluminum head.
Had a buddy mill jug and head then put bronze bushings in. Problem solved. Was a new cam.

It very well could be something like this. This quad was beat like nothing I've ever seen. Why I decided to rebuild it I'll never know.. I get tunnel vision some times.

As for the cam, it is new and rides in a bearing on each end so that's not it. But there could be something else wore that I missed.

The 80s/90s xl xr 500 were the same way
But they also had butter soft cylinder
Inserts
They would oval after awhile.
We put copper shims in the cam seats
And bought several cylinders.
It's funny there is none of those bike's
Here any more.
But there is dozens of xt/tt 500s from the 70s lol still running.

I've got close to a year or getting close on my 268/372 272/372
And they are still my favorites.

I'm ok. Tinkered on the Foreman a little more. I'm getting real close to torching that fuggin thing. Lol
I worked on a few recovered bikes atv utv
Never again the modern one's are a sob
It's almost impossible to get some to run
Right.
They are like cars now with all the crap on them.
Insurance companies just total them usually

I normally enjoy rebuilding these but the joy is gone with this one. Lol
