Wind's coming straight down across Lake Superior here. If Trump want's to build walls so badly, why can't he start with one to keep out Arctic air coming down through Canada? Lol

I'd be okay with that as long as your side holds all the "Colorado Low" snow down there.

Aboot 3-4 inches fell last night and today. As long as Lake Superior is open water, lake effect snow is what we get mostly. I can only recall it freezing over once in my lifetime.

El Nina, if I said that correctly has the weather pattern coming from near Hawaii, heading up to the Arctic circle and dropping straight down the eastern Great Lakes Region. No signs of this changing any time soon. :(

Trust me lads from the north when its 100 this summer with 70 percent humidity you will want your cold back.after a shower you walk outside and start to sweat.

It's just too early this year, about a month I would say.

I am not sure about a full freeze over but I remember ice some 15ft or so thick in 94 my first winter in Thunder Bay.
@huskihl is probably thinking 2012/13. We were in Duluth mid May and there was still ice in the harbour and the the first ship of the season was just arriving.

La Nina is El Nino cold *b-wordy sister. I hate her. Her brother isn't my favourite either. Warmer winters but lots of precip.

The bays usually freeze up and is normal, as is ice fisherman being cast out to open water when a chunk of ice that they are on breaks off and floats away. I never needed a fish badly enough to go on Superior to get it in the Winter.

Fished some smaller lakes in Ontario when I was young, Walleye, Pike and lake Trout fishing was phenomenal. Here in the "Lakeland" area of Northern Wisconsin Muskellunge fishing is the tops, won't find much better anywhere. All other fish are just bait.

I don't even know what that is. I'm not a big fish guy. Pretty much Walleye or nothing for me.

When I spent a summet up north the pike got tossed on the bush for the bears. Didn't want to toss it back in the lake in case it decided to snack on a baby Walleye.
