Mom had a fall at the nursing home tonight and was taken to the hospital to get checked out. I can't get there without crossing at least 2 of the closed bridges...

Here a direct family member can ask about family members conditions at the hospital.
Hope it's the same there

From what I experienced, it's way better to be in a Canadian Hospital than an American one.

From what I experienced, it's way better to be in a Canadian Hospital than an American one.

I have to pay 2000.00 for the 187.00 the ortho surgeon that actually helped me.
No care was given at an emergency room or a clinic but i still have to pay 1800.00 for the referral to the ortho.
The pain was so bad walking from waiting room to waiting room they thought i was having a heart problem.
And i still had to wait until the next day to find my own ortho doc.
I started calling every name in the book and lied about being referred to them LOL
Worked though found a good one.
And without my insurance about 6000.00

Thanks for your concern guys. No news on mom yet. Likely too lamy injured in car crashes getting treated first...

Worst part of our system right now if that if they check her out and decide she's okay they will just send her home in a cab. Thankfully the home has a 24hr desk person that has agreed to pay the cabbie for me. Nothing like a 45 minute drive across town while the meter is running.

Craziest thing to me, you can see the ambulance bay of the hospital from mom's balcony but she will get a $580 bill for the trip.

With my tibia plate surgery shoulder surgery anestesia for both surgerys and in patient rehab. Transport fees with this fall i have austained.not counting the knee surgery thats on nov 9th and out patient rehab its cost work comp.over. 200,000 so far.

Got everyone beat so far I'm creeping up on 400k just for my cancer. No telling what it cost for my broke neck and shoulder work got that bill. I have been very blessed though my insurance is wonderful. I believe I had 2k out of pocket before everything was covered 100%.

Mom's hospital icu stay was around a million dollar's.
Every doctor in that hospital found a reason to consult and get some money
Literally just walking by they charged.
I didn't have to pay medicare did though.
They couldn't do anything for her anymore.
We brought her home to my brother's until the end.

Ambulance is one of the only things that isn't covered by our Provincial health care system. She has private insurance that will cover it and is one of those people that old doesn't mean poor. Dad did a real good job making sure mom wouldn't have to worry about money after he was gone, had a great pension that still pays her 80% of what he was getting. Right now I am glad that he didn't work for Sears like our neighbour growing up did...
